Math Learning Goals
*I can read a thermometer to the nearest 2 degrees. *I can subtract 2 from a number. *I can solve a problem by guessing and checking. *I can identify and create overlapping shapes. Cognitively Guided Instruction The 2nd graders are enjoying a new approach in our classroom: C.G.I. (Cognitively Guided Instruction). This approach allows students to use math manipulatives to explore and solve different types of mathematical problems. Students show and explain their thinking as they learn there is more than one way to solve a problem! Our latest CGI problem: Lynn has 12 shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day. She gave some to her friends. Now she has 4 shamrocks. How many shamrocks did she give to her friends? (SCU) Math Centers We have also begun Math Centers as we work together in groups to review skills and perfect our learning with math concepts. There's lots of different ways to learn in math!
